My Story
2006 saw the birth of Krymzen Hall when she and one of her closest friends, Lashonda, were shopping for shoes while on the clock (Shhh, don’t tell anyone), and they’d spotted a pair of crimson colored short boots. The color, and the crispness of the name seemed to fit. Bold. Then, completing the package, Lashonda had suggested “Hall,” as a last name.
They made the letters edgy and boom—Michelle’s penname entered full-effect.
Long before then, Michelle started writing stories in high school, beginning with a creative writing class. She still remembers visiting an elementary school as an assignment, and then writing a big book for a young student consisting of huge cardboard pages colored in crayon. Because of that project, writing became a part of her.
As anyone will tell you, pursuing your life’s passion doesn’t pay the bills. Joining the Army right after high school proved her only way to escape poverty and allow her to thrive. She’d stayed eight years before embarking on various jobs while performing as the dutiful military wife.
After divorcing, Michelle found herself free of judgement, and went after her fiction projects under her freshly minted pseudo.
Yet, she struggled financially.
Selling herself short, she still wasn’t sure about making a living as a writer. Her first step as a single mother involved getting her MBA in Management and Leadership. Following that up with an MFA in creative writing.
Once achieving this accomplishment, something remained missing. She continued to work while finding her way, including taking a store manager job, and a job selling books and music in a bookstore while entering flash fiction contests in her off time.
